Quivers> What do u ride?

Post by nils » Tuesday 16 April 2002, 17:53

Would like to know what everyone has as quiver out there :)

I'm riding mostly:

172GS Oxygen Proton 2001
185 SW Swellpanik Magistral (Swallowtail) 1999
159R Rossignol Race 1996

also have for those crazy days
198 A Apocalypse model 1997

intending to order this summer:
196cm Swellpanik Amok (Custom Swallowtail)
ECarve 175 ;) if it comes out :D

As for keeping so much boards, as soon as i have a good ECarve board, i'll wont keep using the race ones..

The Quiver

I have four boards that I use for two riding styles.

171 Burton GS
161 Prior SL

I ride these in what I call the Jaysey Jay/Fawcett style
(60 degrees, heel/toe lift, facing forward)

165 Burton Fusion
174 Prior 4x4

I ride these in what I call the Tom Curren style (World champion surfer)
Moderate stance angles, facing more sideways)

My favorite board is still the 84 version of the Burton Performer.
Red paint, medal fins, rubber straps .... fond memories.

My goal is to have a wider freecarve board that I can ride in most snow conditions .... most the time.

My Quiver

Post by Jonnie Tyler » Tuesday 16 April 2002, 20:11

Donek Incline 160: my carving/all mountain board, will also be my powder board. I just got it mid-March, so I haven't gotten a powder day on it yet.

Burton Balance 152: halfpipe/park, I can also carve turns on this board.

Burton Supermodel 162: my old all mountain/powder board. It now sits around as a loaner board since getting replaced by the Donek.

Burton Alp 157 (asym): my old carving board. It now sits around taking up space since getting replaced by the Donek. Anybody want to buy my Alp for $75?

Good, pokkis! :P
This is exactly what we think too (see the Freeride section of the site):
"Every windsurfer or kitesurfer chooses the most suitable gear to the day conditions. Why wouldn't a snowboarder do the same?"

Hi guys

What you guys need to add to your quiver is two kids, a wife, a dog, a cat and a very full station wagon.

Do this and you will thank the snow gods for one board that can do more.

Confessed board junkie.

Hi Nils

I checked out your swallowtail web site....wow!!
You are a busy and dedicated guy, I'm really impressed.

I think I’m going to sell my station wagon and buy a big truck, so I have room for a bigger quiver.

A Prior Swallow tail, Coiler Freecarve, (Support the Canadian Boys) and a custom Extremecarve from the Swiss connection. Might have to leave the wife and kids at home.... to make room in the truck for the quiver I'd really like to have.

My gear

Post by MennoB » Saturday 20 April 2002, 14:39

Just treated myself last holiday, and got new hardboots AND bindings.

I went to the shop because I was fed up with the constant troubles with the original bindings (Nidecker Carbon Comp). It's not good to carve with the handbrake on, because you don't trust your gear. I broke the heelclip, and adjustment of those bindings is a pain in the ***

Board
Nidecker Proto 164 (the last wood+black series).

Boots
Raichle AF 700 TS

Bindings
F2 Titantium stepin

Raichle 324 boots, with the stiffer 'race kit' heels because I think the softer stock heels were the reason my bindings released a few times last year. I ride with the front lean adjuster in position 4, the back in 3 for performance, 4 for more relaxed riding or steeper slopes (it's less tiring to stand up straighter).

Backup board: CustomCraft 170cm, 10m sidecut, 23cm waist, twin-tip shape, Catek bindings at 45/40 degrees. This was my main board when I bought it, but now I have a new favorite:

Main board: Coiler 174cm, 13m sidecut, 21cm waist, directional shape (5cm nose, 3cm tail), Bomber TD bindings at 55/50 degrees. I use a 3 degree bomber disc up front, 6 degrees in the rear (the Cateks on the other board are set up similarly).

I am of the "one board for everything" school of thought. The CustomCraft is easier in the halfpipe, but I am hoping that the Coiler will become my preferred halfpipe board with a little more practice. The narrower waist might be inherently inferior for that, though. Only time will tell.

I have been in soft boots only once in the last 6 years or so, and they only reminded me of why I switched to hard boots. :) I prefer the more forward-facing posture, and even in powder, I like to feel "as one" with the board... hard boots give me that feeling in a way that soft boots never have.

Board: F2 Silberpfeil 162cm.
Bindings: Burton Race, angles about 60/54.
Boots: Raichle SB323, back unlocked.

I am going to purchase new boots next season :) , maybe Raichle AF700.
Any comments on AF700, are they worth of money? Is the forward lean/dampening mechanism well-designed?
