Only analogue pictures of 4 hrs powder freeriding this morning. Now back in the office, as snow was getting a little wet

I had my best day of the season today. 1m of Snow, groomed over 3 times - and noone (like 300-400 people in total - of whom most participated in a ski race - I think it was a Europecup).
Sunshine with -5° till 13:00 - then snowstorm mooved in and we decided to switch our raceboards against swallowtails and freeriders to drop into nearly 1m of champaign powder which was nearly untracked.
- Resort was Hochkar - which is about 180km away from any bigger city and to small to have many people staying over for a whole week. Perfect if you can spare a weekday. Imagine riding down some of the steepest slopes in Austria (not as good as Zinal but close) and being on of 2-3 persons on the whole slope.

We checked Felix statements about Hochkar yesterday and today and found it 100% accurate
.
Very good carving experience, comparable only to the Zinal event in this season.

Bence - you knew Hochkar before I assume?
Before going up there again send me a PM - maybe we can meet. Though mostly there are other hardbooters up there, its rare that I meet people of my level. (Though with Stuhleck it's one of the best bets to find good people - last season I once was up there with some ex-ISF riders who really ripped it down).
Zinal was actually a bit better - but I had already forgotten after so many lousy days. Zinal is a bit steeper too- but the Häsing Steilhang is in my opinion steep enough for proper extremecarving - just a bit short. There are very few as steep and wide slooes like the Häsing in Austria - and none with so few people during the week (except for holidays in Vienna or Lower Austria).

I was in Engadin last week.
There was really good snow, and not too much people. The only problem for carving was the visibility on some days...
Corvatsch slopes are great.
And one black slope in Lagalp (end of no 22) should be really great for extremecarving : steep and quite long, but I couldn't test it the snow was too soft and the visibility too bad when I went there...

Nothing to do with snow, but today and yesterday the weather down here has been so hot for the season that it's kind of scary or 'porn for summer lovers'....at least around 25 celsius degrees in Shanghai area, skirts, sunblock and X-sweating are already back ...my personal feelings are like
why are my boards, boots and snow wear still on sight
oh yeah, we're still in March
Anyway, reading your posts, I'm happy (but quite jealous) that in the end good snow conditions have finally arrived in the Alps.
Cheers,

Nah, but you would wonder how many bad people on alpine equipment are still around here in Lower Austria.
Everywhere I go I find excellent skiers and skiracers to ride with, but good snowboarders are hard to meet.

Well, to tell the truth, there was 4 or 5 other people with alpine setup on Hochkar, and nobody was particulary good with EC. One of the benefits of the Hasing run is that you get a very good look from the lift as it crosses above the piste.

Go on the weekend in February and you might have 40-50 people in hardboots on any sunday. But most of them don't even know how to make a clean carve without skidding, not even talk about EC or racing. They snowboard maybe 5-10 days a year without ever getting proper training. There must be a reason why others that spend 40-50 days or more on the hills are better. (That's in a skifield which is small, so I'ld say maximum 2000-3000 people - so you may have around 2% alpine riders). I've had days last year on which 1 out of 10 snowboarders were in hardboots on the weekend.
