Zinal, 6th to 12th Januar

Post by utzel » Thursday 28 December 2006, 11:06

Hello,

I just managed to book a week with my family in Zinal. I´m curios if there is anybody around at the same time.

Would be nice to meet on the slope and/or for some talk and dinner in the evening.

regards Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

you should check the snow conditions in Zinal as the snow quality 2 weeks ago was really poor. I don´t think it is worthwile to drive 6-7 hours from germany if the snow quality is not very well.

HY, thanks for the advice. It doesn´t look that bad on the webcams.
Anyway, carving is only 50% of the trip. Also wan´t to spend some time with my family. My kids are 6 and 8 they don´t demand perfect conditions. Just snow to have a smooth ride.

Your Avatar says Geneva as location so you should know: are the webcam picts fake ?

Snowreport says: 50cm, powder, good conditions

Hi Wolfgang,

the webcam pics are not fake. They have new snow machines installed in zinal thats why it does not look so bad. If you check on the website the last "real" snow fall was beginning of Decemeber so quite some days ago.
I was one day in Zinal for the season opening 16 Dec were the conditions were really poor. Only 2 lifts were open, lots of ice and hard packed snow. Grass and stones were coming through, so not perfect at all. Due to the snow machines it seems to be better now but definetly there is no powder as last snowfall was long time ago.

hope this helps.

Regards
Thomas

Snow conditions at Zinal

Post by fivat » Monday 1 January 2007, 13:45

At Zinal they have made a lot of artificial snow recently. During the last week of December, there were no stones on the blue and red slopes.

On 2nd January it should snow (natural snow :D ). I hope they will manage to prepare the best black slopes.

It's been snowing here for a couple of days and although today was clear the clouds are back and it should start snowing again soon.

The new cannons have been effective and the recent snow was much needed but there's not much depth in places and the wind's had an adverse effect in places.

Today in Zinal

Thanks for the update. I´ll let you all know how conditions are.
2 days to go, for my trip.

As it turns out, nobody of the community seems to be in Zinal next week.
Is there, at the home of extremecarving , actually a Snowboard teacher around ?

I think about getting a lesson to work my carving style.

Snow Conditions in Zinal

Post by utzel » Monday 8 January 2007, 16:51

I can say there is enough and good snow on the slopes in Zinal. Le Col, the EC slope, shows brown earth in some places and I didn´t try it yet. But all the Rest looks and feels OK.
If you prefer to go offpiste, there some stones looking out.
Today at noon it started snowing again.

From my opionon conditions are OK, and the weather now looks like there will be more snow during the next days.
