Anti spam policy> Forum registration changes

Collateral damages might have occured when i removed false ID created in the forum: we'll now go to the process of email confirmations for subscriptions to the forum!. I removed lot of fake ID, and in the process a few ID with no details might have been removed: if it is the case, please resubscribe and this time give a few details that will make the ID look real ( spam robots barely fill details).

No we do not want viagra, warez, bigger penises, or how to make our partner reach orgasm ( ;))

I hope someday spammers will have a law that will bring them to jail, or internet ban.

Nils

ps: sorry if u run across a few leftovers, or a few spams here and then again, its a long process to clean the forum!

ps2: use nickname that sounds ok, fill in location, and few topics like say you like snowboard ;)

Nils, this is great. The last porn spam was really annoying. Actually we might want all that you listed above, but definetely not on this forum.... :lol: :lol:

Let the spammers burn in hell! :twisted:

Cheers,

István

spam bots

Post by nils » Thursday 18 May 2006, 16:41

believe it or not: those bots are now using automatic scanners to read the blurry text you need to recopy to subscribe to forum or website!!
Only solution is manual validation !

Nils

Please note that even that does not fully help cause these new members are visible in memberslist even before activating account, so some might click link to new members home page.
I had same problem and i changed code so only activated members are visible in memberslist.
Even we are those few new per daay but they are visible nowadays only admin who clear them time to time.

OK, here is how i have hidden spammers from users, as well also new users until they have been approved by admin :wink:
Please do this on your own risk :roll:

File functions.php, there is function to find data from db "function get_db_stat($mode)" it is just in beginning there in file, look for:

case 'newestuser':
$sql = "SELECT user_id, username
FROM " . USERS_TABLE . "
WHERE user_id <> " . ANONYMOUS . "
ORDER BY user_id DESC
LIMIT 1";
break;

replace boded row with:
WHERE user_active = 1
So instead looking newest users fromm all users, it looks only newest active user :wink:

File memberlist.php somewhere line 150, depending of your version, there is lines which pick up data from db:
$sql = "SELECT username, user_id, user_viewemail, user_posts, user_regdate, user_lastvisit, user_session_time, user_from, user_website, user_email, user_icq, user_aim, user_yim, user_msnm, user_avatar, user_avatar_type, user_allowavatar
FROM " . USERS_TABLE . "
WHERE user_id <> " . ANONYMOUS . "
ORDER BY $order_by";

Replace bolded line with :
WHERE user_active = 1

This will limit visibility of users in memeberlist to only active members

No, this is not coding corner, but we wait for snow :roll:

Thanks a lot pokkis, but I have already installed different things against bots which auto-register.
No more spam for one month.
