Where is the powder?
I have seen on TV that there are tons of snow in Japan. More than 4m of fresh snow in a few days Is there a member of this Forum who rides this powder?
And how is it in Canada - BC?
Who has the best season so far?

Japan:
Always a lot of snow in Japan (It goes until 8-10 meters thick on top of the mountains)
And a lot of ski resorts: more than 500 ! It's Difficult to choose one ...
But the ski resorts are usually small (stay no more then 2-3 days in one).
Good ones:
- Niseko (Hokkaido) -> very pure light powder
- Hakuba (Nagano)
- Nozawa Onsen (Nagano)
Useful link:

In prefectures, choose NAGANO, HOKKAIDO ou NIIGATA (Often a lot of snow there!)
Then you will find a ski resort list with descriptions.
You can use the Searh engine to find hakuba for example
Canada:
Revelstoke is the temple of powder.
Those destinations are great to mix Snowboarding between the trees and big deal of powder!

Whistler
A friend of mine is at Whistler right now.
It has snowed more than 3m from 1st January!! But yesterday it was quite packed everywhere. Only 10-20 fresh and light powder on top.
Today it's raining in the village
This happens often in BC... not in the Alps (on January and February) fortunately.

Just got back from Colorado where Copper had 18" over three days (5-7 inches per day). Best early season in Summit in 25 years from what I've heard. Unfortunately the real powder only lasts about two runs on the front trails but you could find up to two feet fresh untracked in the back bowls...

I just got back from Tahoe... last Wednesday they got 1.5-3 feet of powder in 24 hours (45-90 cm!). A lot of the mountain I went to had been closed due to weather on Wednesday during the storm, so Thursday was sunny skies, cold air, and all that 1.5-3 feet of powder fresh and untracked!
That might be the best powder day I have ever ridden (besides heli-skiing)! Amazing.
By the way, I highly recommend the Prior Khyber (kind of like a Burton Fish - large nose, small tail - so you can ride in the powder centered, without having to bias towards the tail to float so much).

Boy the one or two runs I made on the untracked stuff (even if i was only 5-7") was a revelation! It was really the first time for me and now I understand the search for the fresh light white stuff! I was riding a 168 4807 and it really felt like flying on the turn transitions. If I lived near Tahoe or the mountiains in Utah I would definitely invest in a pure powder board like a SwellPanik or other high end board. Amazing stuff!

Re: Powder alarm....in Zinal!!!
In south of Switzerland (the region of "Ticino" where people speak Italian), it could snow 1 meter until Saturday evening!
But Zinal is maybe too much on the west... I pray for at least 20-30 cm...

Are you kidding..?
The pow is in REVY, of course.
South of there, to be exact. I just got back from noboarding in Trout Lake, B.C. where it was DEEP.
Have fun at your EC fest.

Bloody Powder snow
I bought myself my first carving set-up at the start of this season with the aim of learning to carve trenchs and possibly try an EC turn or two.
Well..... Japan has had nothing but powder flowing from the heavens all season.
I have spent a total of 14 days on the snow and all but 3 of those have been in DEEP powder.
Two or three weeks ago I had had enough, I went out a bought a 200cm Rad Air Tanker so I could ride the powder properly. Guess what ...... The next 2 days on the snow were perfect groomer days.
Oh well, now I have the right equipment for the conditions no matter what happens. It just makes for a very heavy board bag!
BTW......... Nigata rocks!
