Beginner - My first equipment

I have been visiting this site all over the past season, have tried a couple of time the hard stuff that i borowed from friends and finally decided that I must give a serious try !

I started snowboarding 4 years ago with soft gears, am 50 years old :( 1.71 and 67 kg.

My end-of-season and e-bay purchases turned into:
F2 Speedster GTS 163 (I wish GTS stays for Grand Tourism Senior ....)
Head Vector
Phiocca PH200 (5mm bail)

I later found another pair of Phiocca PH200 on ebay and I thought it was a good idea to have a spare (it looks that you all are breaking bindings in dozens ... ).

Now my questions to you advanced carvers :
My two pairs of PH200 are different, one box is marked "highlander", the other "macho". Highlander bail fits tighter to the boot. Both are 5mm bails.
What should be my choice?
The binding clamp touches the front buchle of the boot and it's difficult to realease the clamp (very little room for your finger to pull it, particularly with frozen fingers ....). Any experience?

Suggestions on angles, lifts, stance etc, for starting and staying far from accident

Hi Alex

Highlander and Macho looks very similar, and you should be able to use both binding. Try both and choose following your feeling.
Last year I have experienced the same problem with front lever (on phiokka PH1) and Head shoes (Stratos pro). In addition I broke some levers.
I used the first year Phiokka PH1 with Raichle 124 and had no problem. I bought Head Stratos Pro before Zinal event. After 2 hours riding, the two front lever were broken :cry: . I try another lever and broke them also in a couple of hours.

I think the shape of the Head shoes is not the same than Raichle, and is the reason I broke levers. Phiokka has 3 different model of levers. My problem occurs with the black one.
Another rider from this forum (the Blitz) use grey lever with Head and has no problem.

Finally, I solved the problem by using Snowpro lever. They are compatible with Phiokka (5 mm bails) and the shape of Snowpro lever avoid the touching of buckle.

How it happens that you guys are destroying bindings like they were made of balsa-wood ?

First time I broke a lever, it was during ECS, training laid turns. Temperature was very cold and I thought it was the addition of high stress and low temperature, but the second time, I was on green and blue slopes with my childrens : little contrainst on binding and "reasonable" temperature.
Now I think the problem is due to the shape of Head shoes. The nose of shoe is higher than on Raichle model, and as seen on your pictures, the lever touch the buckle. IMO, in these conditions the lever is not in its "normal" state and is more stressed by lateral force, causing it to fissure.

Just wondering where you found those Head Vector boots. Sorry I can't help with your binding situation, I use F2s and haven't had any problems (yet!).

My boots are Stratos Pro, not Vector (maybe it's the same plastic shell)
Model 04/05. Bought in a french shop.

Like on Alex' pictures, front lever touch the first buckle.

I was the one with Head Vector boots.

Bought on e-bay (€ 19.-- new)
