Wall decoration

Post by vkrouverk » Thursday 9 June 2005, 19:08

I've created during nowhere-to-ride time couple of wall decorations: Ojankaivajat (finnish carving forum & society :D ) poster and calendar. They are available in Finnish and English. If you like them, then you can download and print them out under free-for-personal-non-commercial-use license.
Poster is ca. 4500x3000 pixels, allowing 25x38 printouts with 300 dpi and some have printed also 50x75 with acceptable quality. Calendar is 3500x2500 pixels, allowing A4 (210x300) printouts. Calendar could be used on wall or it could be folded 120 degrees backward between images and 3 cm. from top to create desk calendar (upper 3 cm should be taped or glued to backside of lower part).
Link to images (select from upper part original size and save image for printout):

Unfortunately my computer is quite old and editing such big images became very slow, so poster is not quite what I planned, but for first try of any serious image editing it's fine enough for me
May the summer be short!

Befor you print, make sure you have a lot of place 8)

This one is 11X3.

This hangs in my room. 8)

Heh, I don't have room big enough for such printout, that's why I created 25x38 image :D

But how you did the conversion? Is there some program for this?

I will post very soon another version of 6x6XA4
Atleast output looks to be quite reasonable

Here is link:

It has now unfortunately marigins around each page which means it needs some cutting

The method is :rasterbation
just a bit google, and here is the site:
http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator

this is no program! So you don't have to install!
if you want the other wallpaper, no problem, I will send it again to pokkis
enjoy the work

once you get the hang of it, it's great!!! I already did about 10 rasterbations

I wonder if we have to pay copyrights to nils, patrice and jacque

Image shoot up

Post by nils » Saturday 11 June 2005, 8:53

i'm not happy to see people rasterbate all the time, it leads to deafness!

As for image shootup for big size prints: If you have access to a large size printer ( such as we architects are using A0 etc) and just a small file to print: the method for shooting it up with the less loss of quality is this one:

Using photoshop, or similar program, shoot up the image size by increments of 10% each time: 110% etc. The software will create each time the missing pixels with small amount of invented parts only. With a script it can be done quickly too. I have printed A0 posters of images that were originally shot with a 2 mpixel camera with huge success, and many photographers are using this method for shows etc..
Of course if all u have is a A4 printer: then rasterbate!

I don't make rasterbations of extremecarving alone (actualy, this is the first one of patrice or jacques), it can be used for different subjects!

I hope you like the result anyway
