EC ethos

Post by Thomo » Sunday 10 April 2005, 14:46

Hi guys,

Although I've been boarding since 97, I've never ridden an alpine type board with hard boots. I'll be honest with you, I felt it was cheating. Apart from one or two people the majority seem to face down the slope irrespective of how they are turning. I felt that these type of boards were for people who couldn't carve properly.

I admire the EC communities perspective on the purity of carving. You will laugh now but I have been carving on a K2 Zepplyn pipe board with soft step-ins. I thought I was getting low until I saw the EC videos! Boy that's what I call carving!

The Swoard boards appear wide enough to not limit your stance (and to me the whole flow of the turn). The guys in the video's have great fluidity. I watch them and think 'I want some of that!'

The reason that I am writing is that in recent seasons, my set up can't cut it when I push hard and the faster and deeper I carve the more of that sensation I want. I can not understand the myriad of boarders who seem happy riding piste by simply wiggling the back of their boards.

So anyway, I'm keeping my Zepp for powder days and am letting you know that I will invest in one of the new Swoard type boards before the new season - so will write to you again for advice on set up etc.

Thanks for restoring my faith in what I believe is true carving! I look forward to a future mastering this equipment and laying out some nice flowing turns.

Keep up the good work guys and keep the faith.

Will be in touch as soon as I've got the finances!

Thomo.
