[Glove repair] Source for kevlar material

Post by MennoB » Thursday 17 March 2005, 11:16

Hi all,

My gloves need repair.
The stitching on the outside of the glove (little finger side) is torn.
I want to put kevlar material over the tear.

The rest of the gloves is fine; thick rubber on all fingertips and palm. I don't want to replace the gloves because of a torn stitching.

Who knows adresses where you can buy this king of material?
I know about polyglue and sikaflex, but I first have to repair this tear.

FYI: I live in the Netherlands.

PS: any hints for alternative ways of repairing this are welcome off course!

EDIT: I added a picture of the torn stitching of my glove.

All I can say, use sikaflex! It repairs even big wholes....just put 2 or 3 layers on it! If you use a little fabric for the big wholes it is like new...

You can get Sika very easily via ebay...

All the Best,
Kari

I bought them at INTERSPORT....it is just a simple guard for Inlineskating! It´s about 15€ or something.....a little modification and it´s perfect. => Buy the gigest size you can get....

No, this is just because I am stupid and I don´t know how to ride!! 8)

@MennoB: Try to saw the whole and then fix it with Sika - but watch, Sikaflex does´t work that good on rubber. So rough that rubber stuff up and then everything will be perfect!!! :!:

Using Ptex on gloves

Post by roger » Saturday 19 March 2005, 13:03

The problem with Kevlar and rough textiles is that they are sensitive to abrasion, but can withstand rip's and tearing very well.

The only material that last is a material such as "p-tex" base plastics gliding with a low coeficient of friction on the snow.

I got some material from Tim in this forum and with some velcro glued to the p-tex and ptex stitched to the pants and glove I'll have stuf that last forever. I wonder what people say when I put some hot wax on my pants and gloves??
