Trouble with F2 race titanium binding - front is getting loose

Post by huuska » Wednesday 30 January 2019, 17:57

Hi,

hope somebody will advice me some trick how to prevent front "f2 race titanium binding" getting loose after several rides.

I have already used loctite to secure adjusting screws/T_nuts but still no luck.

Currently I am using screwdriver to tighten it before every ride. Which irritates me a bit.

Thank you for advices.

Thank you for advice, I have been looking for them in this forum. I was thinking about Redline.
But for now I have to stick to F2. I have recently bought new EC gen5. So my budget is empty for this year

I just made pictures below to show exactly my issue.

On the left one after several rides (no EC, just learning push-pul) boot get loose and moves sidewise as indicated by red double arrow. Binding was set the way bracket closes not too loose and not too tight. To fix that I always needed to tight binding again by adjusting screw on the right picture (front and sometimes back). About half revolution does this job. As I mentioned earlier I applied loctite on whole thread...

On the picture, please, do not be confused by tape I rolled over the bails. It is prepared for next try...to avoid side movement even if bracket get loose.

I assume your bindings are not new ones.
You could mark on both screws position with marker when you start riding and then look after it to see if they have turned/loosened.
That way you see if screw really opens.

At the Carvers Days we had a man with the same problem I suggested him to try with some Nial Polish instead of loctite and he had no more problem.

Yes they are not new. I have them couple of years. But I didn't ride them that much as there was not enought snow past years in region I live. So even it was bothering me I accepted it. But now I would like to learn new thinks and it looks I spend more time on the slopes.
Thank you for hint with marker. I will try to find out if that is the root case next week ...

...I did not want to "glue" them yet. But this is good tip. Thank you.

So far all I know I do not like this adjustement solution.

Same bindings and same problem here. I need to tighten them at each day of riding. Sounds like a design defect.

It would be nice to find out whether there is similarity in our configurations as I think not all the guys are having this problem. Otherwise there will be more complaints in the forum.

I have size M, UPZ RC8 shell size 7/7.5/8, riding goofy.

What is yours?

.....
One positive note is that after four days of riding with "insulation tape rolled over the bails" eliminating play between them and shell it seems boot in binding stays tight.

Size L, UPZ RC10 10-10.5-11 (UK), (Raichle 323 before... with the same problem), regular.
To me, it is a matter of tightening once a day, so I could live with it until now.

Thank you fsou.

Because your parameters are totally diffent than mine this is then definitelly "design" issue. SImply due to flexibility of the plastic thread has tendency to loose.

Hope others will report this experiences with their F2 binging as well.

Let's turn this sentence a bit:

"Thread has tendency to loose simply due to flexibility of the plastic."

Of course thread is metal, t-nut is metal, connecting two plastic sliders...

if the adjustment screw (right side of the picture) can be turned easily, then the screw will turn out during riding and the boot gets loose. Especially when the binding is used and the screw and metal threaded is worn.
To solve this, just reassemble this screw after removing the whole part and the counter nut and tighten it strongly together.
before tightening, put some Loctite 2701 (green, strong) on the nut to save it as it was done by the factory and let it dry before adjusting the screw.
