Fast melting in only 6 years

Post by fivat » Wednesday 19 September 2018, 21:12

Summer 2018 is ending "officially" in a few days... It has been crazy warm and dry in many places worldwide.
Concerning the glaciers, which we love so much, I already reported this:
[YouTube] Dramatic impact of heat wave on European glaciers

Now compare the two pictures below. They were shot close to Grimentz-Zinal in Switzerland. 8O

You can also see a picture of this glacier which I shot in 2017 from the other side in this thread.

Are we one of the last generations of snowboarders/skiers? :?

Since everybody focuses on the "refugee problem" at the moment, nobody is interested in protecting the environment and preventing climate change any more.
So we might in fact be THE last generation of people who can go skiing and snowboarding in resorts below 1000m. 8O

Yesterday I saw a film about the Glacier Express on german tv.
Many fantastic views on the landscape and informations around the route.
Of course some pictures of glaciers and the information that at the end of this century
only 10% of the swiss glaciers will be left. 8O

Hi all,

no no we care about this dramatic topic...

Gouvernments do nothing,

I Think that the solution may come from Courts. If a Court starts to condamned companies to pay damages, may be it will put some changes... (we know now that all the petroleum Cie knows about the climat since many years but decided to do nothing). Several law suits are running in the US against the gouvernment...

:bravo:
Is the temperature not too high in your place?

Here in West Europe it's still very warm (+20 °C in mid-October 8O ) and the snow conditions are very bad in the rare opened ski resorts with glaciers (Hintertux, Saas Fee, Zermatt). In addition it has been very dry for many months. The famous Annecy lake (in France) had never been so low since 70 years...
