buying new Hardboots

Post by piorek » Wednesday 4 March 2015, 7:19

Hi,

I finally want to replace my Raichle 223. The linesr and one of the buckles is gone.

From what I can see the brands to choose from are Dee Luxe and UPZ.
UPZ looks the fancier one, with ACSS, it is also the more expensive one.
Does anyone know of any shops that sell decent hardboots in Munich?

I don't know much about ACSS, how important is it?
One option would be to get the cheaper Dee Luxe and get a ACSS kit from ABRAX.
Any inputs would be very much appreciated.

I found this shop online
http://www.carversparadise.com/

all the best
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Blue tomato sells hardboots of both brands. Most important thing is a well fitting boot, so get to a shop and try.
As an alternative get a used boot, put some new liners in it if necessary and a spring system of your choice.

What he said.

The fit of the 3 basic boot shapes (Deeluxe symmetrical, Deeluxe asymmetrical, UPZ) is very different. Forget money. Go for the best fit for your feet. You are either going to buy the boots that fit you best, or you will regret it.

Hey Tomas,
I was in the same situation as you, I have used Raichle 325 for ten years now and wanted to get more as they fit my feet, if you liked your previous boots and can't find a boot fitter near you I would get Deelux, Raichle's new name, I found some brand new with thermo liner for 300euros on ebay, I ended up buying a board from the same guy who sold me the boots! If you need to know where I got them I can send you the guys email as I ended up dealing with him direct

Hi Guys,

this is an overwhelming response in a single day! Thanks!
Great advice!

Berner Sport doesn't seem to do hardboots anymore and Surf-Syndikat has closed down,
but Blue Tomato in Munich is selling Dee Luxe!!!!

So I will go into town and try them on.

As for the ACSS,
what is the benefit?
Is it for easier push-pull, i.e. more flexibility for the up and down movement?

Hotracer,
I would appreciate if you could let me have the name of the guy you got yours from.
Seems a good deal.

Martin,
new liner in a used boot, also good idea.
Perhaps I even keep my old one and get a new liner.

Thanks again guys.
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

assuming it is not too late and you haven't already bought your new boots:
I also used Raiche 223s up to this winter, and I always had problems with blisters as well as cold feet.
I now have Deeluxe Track 225s with thermo liners, and I am absolutely happy with them.
Carefully molded, the liners fit perfectly. My feet stay warm even on cold days, and no more blisters.
I bought mine at www.carversparadise.com, at a very nice price.

One thing to keep in mind: The Track 225s are rather soft and therefore suitable only for light riders. They have the same shell as the Raichle 223s (with newer buckles, of course). If you weigh more than 70 kg, they might be too soft for you.

Concerning the ACSS:
Without a spring system, you have two options:
a) Riding with fixed lean mechanism => no freedom of movement (I feel like a zombie)
b) Riding with open lean mechanism ("walk mode") => too soft, dangerous for the ankles.
The ACSS is perfect, it enables you to progress in your riding style.
Go for it, you won't regret it!

Hi,

thanks again for all the good advice.
In the end I got the
DeeLuxe Track 700 2015
from http://www.water-colors.de.
Very reasonably priced at 339€.

They fit well and seem warm and robust.
The only thing is the sole is quite a bit longer.
I hope this won't be a problem.
Didn't get a chance to try them on the slope yet.

take care
Thomas
