Brands

Post by István » Wednesday 15 December 2004, 17:52

Nils,

I wonder what for you can use this info, but anyway, it is no secret :-)

Cheers,

István

ps.: You might want to define a different sales strategy for each individual group of people that are using the same brand i.e. 'Virus owners, throw your sticks away, the sun logo sucks, get a new Swoard' :-) Ok, just kidding, you surely have good reasons to collect this data.

sorry forgot Xtasy :) (any link?)
As for reasons, there is none really, we have no real "organized" marketing that would try to evaluate the potentiality of selling swoards to the masses :)

Its just by curiosity and because someone on the forum sent me an email asking me if there was already such poll :)

Now there is one!

Hello all,

It was my question I mailed Nils today. Nils, thanks for putting the poll together :bravo: .

Well it´s easy answered, since I´ve been on the forum practically all day (victim of the flew :( ) I was actually wondering which Alpine boards are the most favorit, apart from how many boards everyone has, there´s always a favorit. That´s the only reason

Grtz Guido
Swoard 161H, Burton FP 168 symmetrical, Killer Loop R3 159, Nitro GT 154, F2 Race Titanium, Raichle 323

Because the Burner, you cannot forget the burner, and since some people still ride it ( like Pokkis )

Yah, number of Burners have multiplied for this season in Finland
I have two 188s, Paula has 167 ( i had also 178 on last season (in Zinal) but sold it away cause it was so short for me) and i know atleast 5 more here. That is quite good for such extra ordinary, and great board :clap2:

For your info, i have made similar survey among Ojankaivajat and will update figures again during Christamas holidays 8) but anyway here are results from Ojankaivajat in November 2003, number in parenthis is for previous survey before that:

F2_________38__(31)
Burton_____16__(11)
Rossignol___11__(8 )
Hot_________9__(6)
Elan________7__(6)
Nitro_______7__(6)
Prior_______6__(4)
Oxygen______4__(3)
Trans_______3__(2)
Virus_______2__(2)
Sword_______2__(2)
Coiler______2__(2)
Nidecker____2__(0)
Scott_______1__(1)
Skwal_______1__(1)

Currently numbers are totally different :) i can see it from memberslist already

By this poll and the discussions in this forum it is interesting to note and reflect on that there is so many brands in this little niche market. Compared to the far larger alpine ski market that is far more concentrated, this does not make sense in business terms. Either the margins are rocket high if the manufacturers produce those boards for a living or they do not make money at all, just a hobby, or there are few manufacturers producing a lot of brands. Another reflection that came to my mind, how can all those manufacturers, many of them are small, keep up with the technological development in materials and tehcnology in order to push the quality in terms of longitudinal flex combined with tortional stiffness and other criteria that makes the boards easy and fun to ride under different conditions. I still compare to what happened in the alpine ski industry the last five to six years. Maybe that the riding qualities of carving boards haven't come that far or the technology is very simple? Again, just some reflections.
