Highlander vs Ph1

Post by Silver » Sunday 6 November 2005, 20:34

Hi Lee!

How many canting plates do you put below the Highlander bindindings now ? do you ride flat or with canting on them and is that enough not to touch snow during EC turn ?

Thanks! :P

Today was my first time snowboarding after my injury (ript tendon) Its still a bit swolen but it did not hurt during boarding.

To answer your question, i board flat but i use 5mm lifting plates all around. That give me extra clearance during carving.

Those lift plates you have to order on request but they work well.

OK. If i understand, you use 4 canting plates (2x2.5 + 2x2.5) to be "flat". Are they those provided with the bindings ? Is that confortable (especially for the knees) ? if not, this means I must purchase 5 canting plates to ride with canting on the rear foot ?
thx :)

I don't use the canting plates. i use Lift plates. (the black plates in the toe and heel block you can see in my reply of Dec 20, 2004 of this post)

If you stand wide, you could use additional canting plates. I stand relative narrow (i'm 174cm my stance is 46cm with 60/45 angles)

Where did you get this plates and for what price ?
To be sure to understand, can you add a rear canting on your lift plate ?

When i visited Phiokka i bought some.
Your distributor should be able to order them (order no. PH186 for the 6mm bails and PH185 for the 5mm bails)
You can add the canting plates but you need longer scews.

PH1 v. Highlander

Post by Silver » Thursday 10 November 2005, 11:35

What about the fact the highlander ones harden the board since they are fixed fully on it, as opposed to the PH1 which is fixed to the board only by its aluminium lift plates ? do you feel a difference when riding and which one do you prefer (excluding the fact highlander are easier to mount)? :)

With the Highlander you have direct contact near the edge where you want it. I have not felt the "downside" that it "stiffens" the board. I board mainly on Hot and they are quite stiff (for my weight at least). Maybe one can feel the "stiffening" effect better on boards that softer. I now have four sets of Highlanders and i don't want anything else.
