Your Experience with destroying a Board!!!!

Post by McFussel » Monday 6 December 2004, 10:46

Hi everybody,

I just want to ask you, what kind of experience with breaking your board
do you have. Last Weekend in Sölden I saw again some broken boards...

Some broke because of "more intensive" riding :evil2: , some because
of sticking them into the slope :wall: ....or because of stupidness... :alien:

So:

* Did you broke a board ???
* What was the problem ???
* Did the same happen again ???

Never

Post by skywalker » Monday 6 December 2004, 21:08

Hi,

never broke/destroyed a board. Maybe too lightwight, too weak, too careful, don't know. I still got my very old and fairly used oldschool boards like crazy B. and IQ, they are in quite good condition, although completely soft.

What about you?

So, since there are nearly no experiences about crashing a board, I think this thread can be closed......

Maybe my friends and the people we meet are the only one with bad luck!

Have fun....

Broke a Board

Post by Peter » Thursday 9 December 2004, 13:03

Hi all,

a friend of mine had managed to brake a board, lended by me. It was my first try 12 years ago to be 'on board' ( it was awfull :( , but this is an other story). My friend wanted to try this also, so i lended him my board (by me lended from a shop). Behind our house (Sölden) he climbed up a huge hill with one! great bolder in the middle. As a matter of course he mastered it to hit this lonly boulder and broke the board in two pieces  . Shit. Then i had to explain this in the shop, but luckily :) i had taken an insurance for the board. So it was no problem.
I for myself have never broken a board and i don't want to hear that 'knack':alien: again.

I broke two boards by abusing them - one by doing 180 turns with all of my weight on the nose, grabbing the tail, the other by putting too much weight on the tail when landing jumps.

I broke three boards from Aggression / Volant (the company changed names after I broke the second one), because the boards were crap. They lasted 3, 4, and 1 day, in that order, and I wasn't doing anything that merits breakage. The company kept saying they'd never heard of anyone breaking their boards before, which was kind of funny when I called about the third one.

I broke one board from CustomCraft, who instantly apologized, said they knew when it broke, and sent a new one, which has held up just fine. (I would buy from them again if I wanted another custom freeride board, they're good people.)

So, abusive riding can do it, and bad construction can do it. In the latter case, an honest builder can set things right again. In the former case, well, I deserved it. :-)

All of those were freeride boards. I have not yet broken an alpine board... I learned what things I shouldn't do with boards that I like. :-D

Also, I mistyped something above: the CustomCraft people knew WHY the board broke, not when. Of course they knew when, I called them up and told them... But they said that they had reports of breakage from other boards in that production run, and they believed it was due to switching to a different epoxy, as their previous epoxy supplier had discontinued the stuff they had been using. As I said, the next board they made for me has lasted, so I assume they found another good epoxy.

I have only bought one board from them, it was a twin-tip freeride board, with a 23cm waist that works well with hard boots and 45/40 stance angles.
The board they gave me is quite stiff (becaused that's what I asked for) and it carves very well.

Both of my alpine boards are from Coiler but I suspect that CustomCraft could make good alpine boards as well.

Hello all,

I broke a Rossi Race 159 a few years back, by landing an unexpected jump on the tail of the board. Kept it a single piece, but its profile had turned into a "V" (cracked right behind the rear binding).

My other boards are still alive :)
