News of Zinal

Post by joemzl » Tuesday 9 October 2012, 20:41

Hi everybody,

I found some interesting news about our favourite resort Zinal.

A new gondola from Grimentz to Sorebois will be ready in November 2013.

I'm a little bit hesitant about if I find this good news or not
The first thing that pops into my mind is: that it will be more crowded and thats not really what is good for a long weekend of extreme carvers, to many people more dangerous

we'll have to wait and see

I see only possible positive thing that if you freeride to Grimentz, it is easier to get back. Otherwise that sucks

On the other hand it´s easier to get to the ECS if you stay in Grimentz.

And we have the possibility to destroy another black slope.

Crowded: some people come from Grimentz, some people will leave for Grimentz.
So let´s see what will happen.

Joemzl , my first attempt on a black run...sent me bouncing 20ft on my stomach...then 20ft again on my back,as I tried toe to heel to toe turns....

2010 a noob to snowboarding, on nursery slope with 2 to 5 year olds, onto a green run for some weeks, march 2010 had a collision with a woman built like a tank who totally winded me, sat in car for half hour to recover, took 6 pain killers...looked at the foggy black run... Thought 'what the heck',asked someone for a couple of tips on how to turn on steeps...there you have it the black slope destroyed me :silly:

However, wasn't too bad the following season on the black....but I think it would be very difficult for me on black in hard boots...need a season here on hard boots..as I feel like total noob again

Unfortunately, no Zinal for me this season :( :(
...boo hoo hoo...it's not fair...I wanna go...boo hoo hoo....

...oops I forgot I'm on a public forum and not on the nursery slope

Don´t panic. Everyone has to start on blue slopes.

Remember: carving means to go down the slope without active braking.

So even for blue and light red slopes a good technics is needed.
Successfully season to you :hello:

I learned extremecarving on green slope that is 200 meters long. First time i go to black slope happened after 30 training sessions on the snow.

Also making full laydown turn and stand up on flat surface is quite complicated thing to do :-)try this first before getting to black slope ;-))
i`m learning

Another point is that it does not make any sense to try/practice EC before one can do good carving turns.
Basic stuff must be practiced, and learned, first. That is best and fastest approach.

Joemzl, I like your phrase...'down the slope without active breaking'...I never thought of it like that, gives me a different mental view which is helpful :-)

Starikashka, thank you for pointing out that learning can be done on green...I didn't realise...I thought I had to get on steep slopes for carving...I know just the green I can practice on...see if I can collide with another tank...:-0

Pokkis, any updated snowy Zinal pics? Unfortunately the great snowy start over here has disappeared but still very promising :-)
