Hi everyone,
I know there are a few riders here with a selection of powderboards or/and swallowtails.
Currently I'm riding only my alpine boards with a stance of 49cm and 55/50 degrees. I have never owned a true powderboard. Mostly when I ride powder (if I can find it) I use my carvingboards and a lot of my weight on the backfoot.
Fortunately I got a very nice birthday present. A friend is paying me a true powderboard (custommade).
I really love the look of those swallowtail boards and I think not needing to shift my weight to my backfoot in powder would be awesome. Then I thought, I would love to do some touring with my Skitouring friends. So the consequence out of this was I ordered a Swallowtail Splitboard. It gets build by Seb Perret of Phenix Snowboards.
But now I have a problem. Seb needs to know my stance and angles and I don't know what to choose. So maybe someone of you can help me (I want to ride that board with my hardboots or special skitouringboots).
Thanks
Christian

Re: Stance on a swallowtail
Hi Christian,
Seb builds very very good Swallowtails, he has 20+ years experience in them and is a high level rider so he knows what he's doing ( and the craftmanship level is high too)..I'd consider his boards in the top 3 for ST along with Pogo and Swellpanik's ( all 3 have so much experience !).
I'm also riding in powder with hardboots on different sizes of ST, from 181 to 196cm, and basically the angles am using depends on the conditions: If there is chances of ending on piste with hard icy snow, I tend to increase angles until the back and front of the boots does not risk to catch and edge....but if its fine, lots of powder, I decrease angles with some slight overhang ( 1 - 1,5cm..).
With 28,5 mondo and short sole snowboard boat ( for example Northwave's or SB125) you can get less angles than with a ski touring boot that are longer ( or the excellent SB121 with vibram soles).
I'm currently navigating between 45/30 angles to 30/15 on my wider board and powder day..
I guess you have to tell Seb the lenght of the sole, so he can find a compromise, or set the bindings right so there is no overhang?
Good luck!
Nils

Re: Stance on a swallowtail
I am 1.75 and with my swallow Pogo Shaman 193 (23,5 cm wide) I set:
- stance 49 cm - 35°/43° FLAT
- stance 51 cm - 33°/48° front FLAT / rear UNICANT
I ride it with a pair of old DeeLuxe Le Mans or preferably with AT Boots Garmont Megalite (27 mp) but I am thinking to buy a new pair of AT Scarpa/Dynafit (I ride in walk mode).

Re: Stance on a swallowtail
Nils, does this guy makes a boards with small number of inserts like Oxess do? I do not understand a reason of asking stance parameters.
I personally ride 40/50 degrees and 49 cm stance.1,83 cm height, ride in hardboots Deeluxe Suzuka. It looks that my stance is not really right - last time i made about 10 rides in a row on the Tiefenbach glacier and felt strong pain in the front knee. Is there any principle to find appropriate stance parameters?

Re: Stance on a swallowtail
Normally I wouldn't ask for stance and angle, because I can find out by myself. But this is a splitboard. So the slider plates are attached directly to your binding. On the board you have then some parts called pucks. For a 3-split those pucks need to be cut at a special angle. And this depends on your prefered riding angle. The pucks are then mounted to the left part, the middle part and the right part of the snowboard. I think you can't do this with some normal inserts. And thats the reason why Seb asked me for my stance and angle.

Nevertheless I thank all of you for your recommendations.
