Hello Guys

Post by nils » Saturday 30 October 2004, 12:19

We have thought on this many times: and the thing that is happening is that we are running after time, our most precious asset that is hard for us to secure !
We are this year again going to release a new short Opus like Stoked, but even better with newthings and cool stuff, but producing a video is something really different... Raphael is right when he says it needs time and money to produce the real stuff... I was in contact last year with the great people at www.tvmountain.com ( chamonix guides ) and they told me what to expect in terms of costs for the shootings, delays etc.... And we could see the problems in terms of timing and time consumption it would be....not to mention distribution issues etc!

We also thought of how to distribute our small vids that are not so bad after all to shops that sell alpine gear so they would be able to use as a " see how alpine is nice" to their shops... and this would take less time, but still would ask for a certain amount of DVD's or "mini"DVD's (burned on a CDR) since the movies are short... then the time for it to be shipped to shops etc would be long too....

Maybe a solution would be to have people that want to help downloading the DVD file, burning them on their own burner, and giving one DVD to their local shops that sell carving and likes the idea... that would be much simplier for us!

Not really thought of that problem! Although Stoked has been downloaded almost 20 000 times from the server last year! (not to mention opus 1 and 2) and already a nice budget is invested in this field ( bandwidth consumption is that of a small porn site :)

That copying films to local shops etc is good one 8) But then we need to be sure that all material, film and music, is such that there is no copyright issues involved.
We are having annual SkiExpo here in Finland and i could give Stoked, Dreamer etc there to be played in Snowboard section but i dont know surely that all music on them are "legal" that way. Some people a very strict about that.

Nils do i read your comment so that version Stoked2 is "for them" ?

Jacq , thanks for info related to Dreamer music, it is great news and even greater credit for you :clap3:

Unfortunately i have only that copy of Dreamer which is in EC site and it will not look so great in big screen, but if none can not supply better copy before Thursday, then that will be it.

So if Nils gives me answer, i will burn dvd of these two to be played there.

I will put the DVD files of Stoked 2 on my server for you to dl it Pokkis :)
All you'll have to do is download, launch the .exe ( winrar) and burn it on a DVD or a Mini DVD !
File is about 135 Mb uncompressed!

Bittorrent

Post by neil_swingler » Sunday 31 October 2004, 20:36

Why not let us download the files from your server with bittorent:
http://bittorrent.com/
That would avoid high bandwidth peaks for you.

Yeah, I was thinking bittorrent too. Unlike all the other FS apps, bittorrent has a very strong legit following. i.e. open source community, game demos (‘hosted’ by the companies themselves, not just endusers), etc.

In other words, while before you could basically say all file shareing (FS) apps were basically nonlegit, bittorrent has really changed that (of course you could correctly argue bittorent is not file sharing technology, but rather download sharing technology). You (extremecarving inc. whatever the company is called) would have no problem putting your name beside bittorrnet. You would only be yet another legitimate company to join the list. You have the bandwidth of a “small porn site”?! Creating torrents could serious cut your hosting costs!

Drcr is quite right.

Plus, you should secure the property of your videos, to be certain that nobody claim they made it, and then you can release them in hi-res through bittorent freely. So we can distribute them for you (wich is a pretty clever move in your situation), and you'll save your bandwith from over-porn-ing. :D
