Tuning Northwave Nexus model

Post by Dave » Thursday 22 January 2009, 19:58

Hey guys

I just bought a pair of second hands Northwave hardboots, model Nexus. (grey)

Because the spring is rather hard, I'm looking here in Belgium to change the spring.

My questions:

1: how do you know that the flex is good? (not to hard, not to soft)
2: the length of the spring is shorter than the .900 model ( 10cm against 6cm), is it necessary that I extend the spring system to have more flex-movement? (if yes, how is it possible?)
3: are there any cuts to be made on the boot itself to improve the flex?

Thanks for your help

Greetings, Dave

The system seems quite different so I doubt you can do the same as on the .900.
The cut you can see on the .900 of Patrice near the axis is here to avoid the shell touching the spring during hard flexions.

Do not make any modifications to the spring. Just unscrew the top screw to the max possible and cut 1/2 cm of the black plastic where the arrow points so that when u flex the boot the plastic does not get stuck against the second closing hook of the bottom part of the boot.

Ok, thanks a lot

I will look for some softer springs and cut a little bit of the plastic.

Is it wise to cut away some plastic at the back in the inside of the boot?
