Different angulation front-rear. Why?

Hi everybody!

I read somewhere in this Forum if you ride with the same angulation, you might have quickly some pain in the knees and hips. :cry:

Has anyone an idea why?:wall:

I can confirm that. Because of the narrowness of my board I have to ride 63 63, which is really inconvinient for me and exhaust muscles. Gotta change to a Swoard :-)

Previously I was riding 63 57 which felt OK, but I have realized that at fully laid backsides the heel of the boot touches the snow, hence the edge preassure decreases, thus I fell.

As far as I know most people find it comfortable if there is 4-5-6 degrees between front and back. Must be because of anatomy.

I think, the raesons can be easily seen, if you just stand on the floor like you usually stand on your snowboard. First there are anatomic reasons: When you are relaxed, your legs are a rotated outwards a little. This derives from the design of your hips and increases, if you bend your legs (in the hips and the knees).

Furthermore, there are geomerical reasons: To be able, to move vertically, the axes of you knee joints habe to meet in one point. As there is some space between your feet in toe-heel-direction, you have to rotate you legs, to make the axis meet. If you have two parallel axis with yur stance as distance between them, your legs are totally locked except some flex of your joints. This is, what will hurt badly. In addition, your body does the rotation against your setting, so he will rotat in the joints, some of the inwards, others outwards, and in each case, this will not lead to feeling comfortable ;).

The difference is here to "open" the legs and not to only have more angle at the front foot!! :bravo:

Knees problem at skiing

Note that at skiing your feet are parallel... and that's not really efficient (and it's no good for the knees).
Now some racers have special boots: feet INSIDE are not parallel (but in a duck stance) while the boots are still parallel!
Strange sport ;-)

So when you learn ski by doing "Chasse.neige", it's even worse!!? :roll:

I agree, I have a knee not such in a good conditions and it hurts me when I ski (only one time this year) and it doesn't hurt me when I carve... :D

And that surprised me at the beginning!!
