Stop weineing!
When the lifts are closing, its high time to start walking.
It's hard to find a better way to get in shape for the beach season then hikeing up to new untracked runs on a splitboard or snowshoes.
The spring winter is the best time for touring. Long days, mostly sun and stable/ predictable spring snow.
Go, and get fit!

/Big-pack, (aiming for a zexy 6-pack again.. )

Some pics from today (yesterday was even better, but I had no camera). These pictures are from lower Austria, Hochkar (1300-1800m altitude, but gets dumped every winter so snowboarding continues sometimes into June) where until next weekend one resort is still open and at the moment has awesome spring conditions for freeriding. Carving was too very nice, but only till about 11:30 (so 3 1/2 hours, as in spring lifts open 8am here).

Today it was quite crowded, as can be seen on the pictures. Yesterday there were only about 60-70 people on the whole mountain skiing and snowboarding. In the afternoon the weather got a bit clody and it rained so the number dropped down to maybe 20. Quite nice to some thousands in high season. With so few people it's no wonder why the resorts close so early (it's the easternmost resort still open of the European Alps which should mean a much larger number of potential customers compared to the resorts more towards the West)

It's a shame that the next weekend will be the last one here. It would be enough snow to prolong until 3. May easily.

One "crowded" slope

Spring snowboarding is simply the best, still good snow cover

Still a lot of snow

Some nice hucking over the cliff and the connecting slope, built by some Chezc snowboarders yesterday. Today the landing got to hard so no more jumping. Was really scary jumping down here because of the trees in the landing zone though. After the first one had gone over it safely nothing kept me and the other 3 back though.

Looks a bit smaller on that picture though, reality seemed more like the above picture when going over it. Landing is steeper than it looks, so if it weren't for the trees, not dangerous hitting it.

Post by Schneewurm » Friday 2 May 2008, 11:34

pokkis, don't talk about snow now, You can do it after this beautyfull springtime days.

Just now everybody in the French part of Switzerland is on focus to the ProTour-Cycling "Tour de Romanide", presenting a timetrial today at Sion, close to del Val d'Anniviers. The cyclists and poeple on street enjoy that great time very much. No cold rainy days, or mountain stages with heavy snowfall and snowcovered riders like in the past an Alex Zülle, searching the street up to LesDiablerets through his foggy sunglasses.

Just watch the next days Swiss TV TSR II and enjoy the beautyfull Swiss pictures broadcasted from one of the best TV production team for cycling events on the world, offering absolutly unique pictures like out from tunnels, or from one inch beside rotating wheels!

Tommorow Saturday, the famous pro-cyclist Alexandre Moos, living just at the base from Val d' Anniviers near Sion, who likes also to go snowboarding in wintertime, will climbe with all other competitors up to Zinal and I hope he can win there.

Don't miss to watch this stage and enjoy the beautyfull Swiss mountain colour pictures!
Probably they will broadcast also some of them from the ski area of Zinal as background for rankinglists at the end of the broadcast!

TV-schedule:
Fr 16:00 - 18:30
Sa 12:50 - 13:35 Preview with infos about culture, sports of the region from Sion and Zinal etc. (Would we see also some carvers with red boards?)
Sa 13:35 - 18:55
Su 13:30 - 16:05

see also broadcasts from Swsis TV: SF-2 in German.
Gliding on Snowboards,
like Pogo, Kessler, Virus, Hot, Nidecker and others,

"It's Dumping in Colorado" along to http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/s ... hp?t=21086 :
If you thought the season was over, think again. Colorado just got a foot of snow and two mountains are still open with a record base. Loveland closes on Sunday and we are planning a little shindig. If you want to join, check for details here.

Abasin will be open into June and there are already plans for carve gatherings there. Keep an eye on the Colorado ride board and come on over and help us keep the season alive!
"Snoqualmie Central OPEN this weekend" along to http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/s ... hp?t=21068 :
Last weekend was great. Sunny colder in the morning and firm on the groomed... We just received snow last night and know it is freezing every night. As long as precipitation is not rain (forcast sunny) another great weekend for using everyone as gates. Do not hesitate to post or come enjoy the morning fun!!!!More is better to play follow the leader...Enjoy the great northwest snow.
