Non Burton bindings on Burton carving boards

Post by ke-rui » Wednesday 23 January 2008, 0:53

Finally hopefully found a forum with peoples who shares one of my big passions - carving. I have done this for a lots of years (since the early Peter Bauer & Jean Nerva days) - for that reason, naturally a Burton rider for many years (also doing freestyle and soft boots stuff). But back to the questions someone might help me solve.

Currently I have 3 carving boards, Burton factory prime 164 cm, Burton factory prime 173 and Burton Speed 178. Old boards but still working great from my point of view. In addition I use the Burton plate binding (one pair) and Burton race physics binding (2 pairs) on these boards with Burton hardboots (the wire system for race physics included).

These boots are giving my feet some pain and last month I bought a pair of UPS X-mach with a very good fit. My request on this forum is regarding bindings to these Burton boards. Is there any manufacturer today that supply plate bindings that fit with Burton boards ???

With my new boots and if my one pair of Burton plate bindings is destroyed - are these boards unusable i.e. not possible to get new bindings to fit the original mounting ???

I would really appreciate if some of you dudes have having similar challenges and managed to solve them. YES - I will purchase new boards at one time or another but currently - I would really try to be able to use these race boards as long as possible.

Welcome :)
There are few bindings wich go without any mods to Burton odd insert system too. One of tehm is Bomber TD2, bomberonline.com, they are available also from Sweden www.alpinepunk.com via Mats. Theu are great bindings.
Some others exist too but i can not comment others.

btw wher ein Norway you are located? You could perhaps join our carving camp in Oppdal on week 10? Info of that via me or from www.flegmatic-carving.com, there is also some film trailers of Oppdal camps from previous years

That works also, except it has close to zero adjustability :?

But with small engineer-thinking that mod can be extended to something which works much better

Phiokka still makes plates that can be mounted on both 4x4 and 3D (=burton) insert patterns.
I'm not sure about their homepage now, but for example Pogo sells Phiokka OEM bindings under their name...
see
www.pogo.biz
the only problem is that with the 3D pattern they are not fully regulable...
(each hole is just about 1 cm long...)
see the photo on Pogo site and you will understand... but is still good!

I do have my Phiokkas on the FactoryPrime...
But I didn't have problems with the regulation since the stance was already OK for me on the standard central position...

otherwise a brand called "IBEX Bindings" remakes the Burton race bindings...
see
http://www.alpinecarving.com/binding_model.html
:-)
