Who is for a revival of the Northwave Hardboot?

Post by hangloose16 » Friday 23 November 2007, 12:05

Hy,
since 1995 I ride a Raichle (Deeluxe) Boot and I never was really satisfied about - too soft and too much side flex!
One month ago I got a old Northwave (yellow 950) and it`s impossible, never problems again on my frontside because of the direkt pressure goes to the board!
So what`s your favourite boots and do you agree my opinion?

yes we all agree the Northwave is the best hardboot ever made....

There was rumor that Sigi Grabner got the molds... but from my info with Nortwave Italy, the molds were destroyed / recycled and they have NO idea where the CAD data and tech info can be lying.... It would need someone searching in the factory to find data and relaunching the prod is something in the 500 k€ range minimum....

500000€/300€= circa 1700 pairs of boots

I heard the molds are in a factory in the US, who bought Northwave, but they don`t need the molds and I think they don`t know how much the value is for us snowboarders. Probably Sigi Grabner will produce this boots in the next years. Hope so!

I have had direct contact with northwave italian factory, and they told me that:
- molds were destroyed
- they had no idea where tech info was anymore

i asked that 3 years ago already...
I think unless i can see photos of the molds it is a hoax :)

Nils

kurts8: i was not even talking about production... i was talking about remaking molds and reprototyping plastics etc all over again....
Also would be hard to choose what mondos and how many in each...there will be a minimum quantities for each size etc....complicated business!

Hmm why would Sigi, a dedicated Burton boots rider produce Northwaves?

And who would OEM for him, Garmont or Dalbello once more?
If Garmont would again OEM hardboots then we would have drawn the jackpot, but I personally don't believe that the molds still exist.

Where did you get that rumors about Sigi from? I could ask an A-team rider to inquire further but don't think there's any basis behind.

Schoch brothers getting into Northwaves would make more sense.

Guys, I am still laughing about the massive joke somebody posted in the forume last April 1st....(the warehouse with 25 pairs of NW in France...)..

Reality, is this is the greatest hoax in the EC world.

Plus: NW 910 are good, but REALLY OLD!. It should be better to design a completely new boot at this point!!!! Just look at the latest ski boots...

alpine Hoax are the best :)
As for remaking a new boot... why do u want to make totally new thing when someting that works already great exists... Unless you are sure that the new one will be a real improvement, its many risks taken no?

One good reason to do proper new design is incompatible heel of NW

Nils I wouldn't change radically much of the NW, but, they can be improved in any single area (from plastics to the interiors)...thus giving us a completely new boot.

If you have to build again the mold from scratch, might as well make it better.

@Felix: Sigi is riding the Northwave since last year, thats the reason and I know that from him! But to it`s nothing new that to reproduce that boot is very expensive, thats why Northwave is not produced yet!
