I have a quiz for you: How did the FIS come up with 16cm as the minimum width for race boards? You might have to ask an oldtimer to get right back to the beginning on this one. LR :?

On ISF side they had also same stupid rules, sometimes it was 16, sometimes 17, so it might come from there

Its first a ISF rule ( for those that do not remember) first came the ISF made by snowboarders for snowboarders, then in 90's FIS started its own circuit with riders leaving ISF for FIS tour... that started the end of the golden age of Snowboarding.

I think the 16cm rule was to make sure no skwal entered the contests... in some very icy and curvy runs, it could be an advantage to have a very narrow board maybe..Its also because snowboarder were arguuing snowboard wasnt skwal etc..and to stop the narrowing of the boards after each race almost... must be around 1992-93

To be exact board could have been even more narrow, 14cm, if effective edge was shorter than something :)
Naa, all that was time when ISF distroyed whole alpine stuff and gave all that freely to FIS who saved the world

PS i was disqualified before Finish champ races with my Virus Nightmare, so i borrwed SL board for GS race and vice versa cause none had proper board to loan me 8O
