You have to use cursors in the left-upper corner to scroll to Europe

Nils,
Google maps is relatively new and was released only a few months ago. It started with only major cities in the US and has been getting more detailed as they've gotten to each region. What's fun is clicking on the "Satellite" button on the upper right hand corner of the map and seeing the satellite image of the area zoomed into. If you click "Hybrid" it'll show you the national borders along with the sat photo. When Google maps came out there were worries here in the US that it would help terrorists out in their evil plannings!
It looks like Europe is pretty well mapped out with the sat photos. For instance, it looks like Silber lives in a clump of trees! I think only the major urban areas are photographed in a relatively large scale, large enough to see individual buildings. The locations seem to be based purely on zip codes in the US so the location shown on the map seems to be the post office serving the address as opposed to the actual location.

Well, it is notorious that Milan is a little village in the countryside full of trees....Actually, if you zoom in well you'll realize the sadness of all the concrete that surrounds me. Thank God the Alps are close by!

Glad you folks are enjoying the map. Remember the site is still in development and it has its quirks. If you make a mistake in your "shoutout" there is no way to edit it. Email and I can delete the entire entry so you can post it again.

In the satellite view, you'll notice that some parts of the earth are gray and others are green. The gray areas are in high resolution. Unfortunately, you won't be able to zoom in as far in the green areas. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. In the United States, the entire states of Massachusetts and Indiana are in high resolution but other states have very little hi res.
If have some spare time, go to
http://earth.google.com/ and download the free program. It allows you to tilt the view to an oblique angle and then"fly" between mountains. Well worth the effort!
