Complaints from snow groomers

Post by Fotisa2006 » Tuesday 25 February 2025, 10:27

It may look funny but I receice many complaints from the snow groomers when extreme carving because it makes big cuts on the slope when it's empty and it is difficult for them to groom the slope the next day .
I sounded like a joke to me at first but after receiving complaints day after day I wanted to share it with you because it has started to become annoying to me .
Does this have any basis or its just b@%@#hit ?

Hello,

Yes we make trenches in the slopes, but they're not so deep ! Skiers make big bumps and I don't think groomers complain about this

During our event in Zinal, it's true that after 2 hours of EC on the reserved slope, this slope become destroyed, but we can see that 1 hour after being re-opened to the skiers, the trenches are covered. At the end of the afternoon, the bumps are much bigger then the trenches

This is what I was trying to explain. That bumps made from skiers are much worse than the cuts .
Their problem is that the bumps can be easily shaped in contrast with the " cuts " that have to be filled with snow . So it's extra work for them to push snow and fill the cuts . Furthermore they insist that the drill behind the snowgoroomer can't go deep enough to modify the cuts from the turns . As far as I know the drill can go up to 12 cm deep in the snow . In any case even in soft snow conditions I don't think that out edges can go that deep. Maybe from multiple passes from the same turn it could happen .but anyways I don't think that the whole thing is such a big a problem that I am supposed to discuss day after day . And also I don't think that extreme carving can be banned .because I also heard about this from the ski patrol

Make EC turns when they're looking away, but don't stop trenching! :evil2:

I know most employees and directors in my resort, Zinal.

One day, the technical director said loud in the restaurant, when seeing me: "Hey, here is the trenches maker!".
I looked at my watch and then I replied to him: "At what time do you plan the second grooming?". And everybody laughed.

We are well accepted and there is no problem actually. 8)

To the rare skiers who are complaining, I tell them that the good carving skiers dig trenches too. Suggesting to these grouchy persons that they are not good skiers.

I had also today a conversation with the technical director. And I explained him about the extreme carving technique and the whole philosophy behind this . Showed him videos from the swoard meetings and events and he was amazed after all. In the beginning employees and snowgroomers were thinking that I m just a crazy guy that I somehow invented a way to show off , but when everybody realized that ec is a technique with a long history behind it was fully well accepted 😁

Hahaha my secret is that I choose a perfectly groomed black slope whis is relatively short ( 1km ) and almost nobody prefers it . So imagine that from during the opening at 8.30 till 11.00 I do around 25 descends . If the snow is good I stay till 13.00 so you can imagine how the piste becomes from my trenching 😅😅😅
