Oxygen Proton GS 178 --- SOLD --- VENDU ---

* SOLD * VENDU * VERKAUFT *

This is the oldest stick in my quiver ... but the first worldcup board I owned. And loved it every minute I had it.

It's bruised and battered ... it looks like it withstood the 2nd world war ... but that's just superficial. Underneath it's still fresh as new, and that's the way it goes down the slopes too. This ain't the board for posh boarders and fashionistas ... it's a thing that goes like hell for those who want a lightning quick alpine stick for almost no buck.

Price: 50 EUR + shipping.
Shipping with GLS Europe (21,60 EUR for NL, D and L ; 25,60 EUR for F, I, UK, ...)

highres pics to check out its scars: http://rapidshare.com/files/443101791/O ... GS_178.zip

Trust me: if it were soft or broken, I'd already had a chair made out of it (or sth). It boards perfectly, just has a lot of scratches and some chips (from the gondola bucket).

Somebody ready to give this stick a second life? It'll treat you with precise turns and powerful pop. It's a dream for medium size/weight riders. No ballad board, though. Get your black socks on for this one, pink ain't gonna do it.

Some more info, copy/pasted from a PN of a few minutes ago. Some more reading. And I'm (as always) open for extra advice, suggestions, corrections, remarks and all the other stuff I can learn from. :D

Hi (...),

The Proton GS is one of the lesser stiff GS-boards, that's true. I think you can compare it to the present F2 Speedster Equipte versions (the softer "all day" alpine boards, better suitable for non racing alpine boarders than the F2 Speedster World Cup). It's a little stiffer than the Silberpfeil, but still not as stiff as world cup boards (which I find too stiff for my liking, physical condition and technical abilities). It has a decent amount of preload, but lacks to too harsh stifness most of us cannot put to use or get tired by after 2 hours of boarding. It has an enormous edge hold, and is a little more foregiving in extremecarving than some GS or SL boards, although for extremecarving it demands a fair amount of front leg pressure (like most of the boards). I find it easier for extremecarving than my Speedster RS, probably due to the fact that it turns a bit shorter and it's a little more forgiving concerning foot pressure. For speedcarving it's awesome: it clearly forgives pressure that's not optimal and has a tendency to keep the tail in (instead of the tail breaking loose like some very hard world cup boards do). Which is nice.

After my Burton Coil (freecarve alpine board) back in 2005/2006, I wanted something more dedicated, and before I tested the Silberpfeil, I had the chance to ride one of these. It immediately felt good to me (which an F2 alpina racing board from that time didn't, too stiff and demanding) and I could put my mediocre carving style down without falling or being punished. I searched for one to buy, but didn't find one untill I already tested (and bought) a Silberpfeil. I've bought this one from a guy in France who raced sometimes (local amateur racing), and got it (cash, during winter holidays, the buy settled during après ski festivities at a bar) for a reasonable price. It's faster than my Silberpfeil (which is sold as well) and was a little older so I used it in less than perfect conditions. Edge hold on ice (at speed) is better than the Silberpfeil too, so I liked it a lot, the days I took it up the mountain.

The Proton GS 178 is - to my experience - a perfect all day GS board for people of your weight (75 kg). I'm a little taller and weigh more (1m87 and 87kg) and it's still good for me (radius and flex makes it a decent board that sits between the SL and GS class for a guy like me) but I wanted a slightly bigger radius (and to be honest: something new), hence I bought an F2 Speedster GS 183 Equipe to replace it, which has a radius that's 2 m wider and it suits my quiver perfectly together with my Swoard 175M extremecarver.

I live in the vicinity of Ghent (Flanders region). The board can be picked up in Ghent. If you would be interested, let me know. We'll work out something.

Please look at the RapidShare picture zip-file. You'll see the board has a fair amount of battle scars (scratches, chips off the tail). It doesn't look pretty in those terms, but is technically in a more than fair condition. Base is repaired and in a good state. Preload is still 100% there, edges are fine and sharp. No delamination. For that price, it's a "go rather than show" addition to any alpine carver's quiver.

Kindest regards,

Gilles
