Built a new board

Good news: Got a new board out of the mould yesterday. I will finish it tomorrow, so it will be ready just in time (as always) for the EC session. It seems to have worked out really nice, can't wait to give it a try This is the 6th board I built. The previous board was already very very nice, but I ...

differences

It's been a while since I've been here... Anyway, I once did the math for the difference between a radial and a parabolic sidecut. The differences are VERY small, less than 0.02mm unless you get extreme board dimensions (very long board with small radius). I don't think anybody sharpens their edges ...

I ride a 180 with a 14m radius which is a combination I really like. In Zinal I tried the 185 Donek from Pokkis, which has an 11m radius I think. The board does not do what you would expect of a 185, you should treat it as a long slalom board rather than a 185. From that point of view it actually ha...

My experiences

I just came back from my first week of riding step-in TD2's with raichle le Mans boots. I ride the boots in walk mode, because if you lock them they are just way too stif for anything I guess. In walk mode they are quite okay. They could give a bit more resitance in forward flex, a spring mechanism ...

Thanks to all of you, and especially Nils, Jacques & Patrice, for the great weekend. Everytime I think of the session a huge smile appears on my face! Can't wait to get back to the snow and work on my technique!

possible

It's possible, but i would not recommend it. You would have to drill a hole throught the bottom to put them in, about 1cm all the way through and 2 cm the first few mm to get the bottom of the insert through. The hole in the base is easy to fix properly, but it is practically impossible to fix the h...

torsion bullshit

Too bad, but torsion forks are a rather ineffective for increasing the torsional stiffness of a board. Torsion forks do more for the longitudinal stiffness than for the torsion stiffness. Probably the most important reason of their use: It looks good. My guess is that they use carbon to reinforce th...

Looks nice, but..... where are the inserts?

230 euro? seems a bit expensive to me. I guess the material cost of my board was about EUR 170 and I used a lot of carbon. But I got a lot for free, i paid for about EUR 80.

I know some companies have used dyneema, the nidecker concept listed something like CARBON/KEVLAR/DYNEEMA on the topsheet. But usually the only put very very little of these materials in a board, just to be able to claim it on the topsheet. I have doubts if it was used by any company in significant ...

I used vacuum for fabrication. Dyneema is a fibre material made of UHMWPE (which is in fact the same material as the base) made by a special technique. It is one of the strongest fibres, probalbly the strongest that's commercially available. The reason I used it is that beside high strength it also p...
