I'll kick this to the front....

My pick would be either a 161 ATV, or the same-ish length Spearhead. If I could have a Spearhead type nose on a ATV width board, that would be perfect. Short for the bumps, after a bump session @ Whistler in February, I am convinced that the narrower shorter board is best for that, balanced out with...

My $.02 American....

Just want to toss out a few thoughts on this subject. I haven't seen it, but I would think that you could put ski crampons on approach skis, and have the ability to climb steeps better. I have been using Dynafit TLT4's for almost all my boarding last season. Very light, crampon compatible, flex simi...

Seems like Nils should post up here as he has some experience with swallowtails also. Any thoughts?

Cutout shape is most likely less important than the amount of board that is cut out. I think the nose shape is top priority (size, flex, length of nose), taper of the board second, actual board flex pattern, then the tail cutout. This is only a personal opinion, and I've only ridden two, my Nitro pow...

Thanks, pokkis, I had the feeling that it would be that way, but don't really have any way to confirm it. At speed, and in deeper snow, I was fairly sure the swallowtail would be better based on my few rides. In Utah at Splitfest I was the rocket on snow using their loaner 178, at least going down! ...

Yeah, I know, but I wondered about something like a 187 Tanker Heli vs. my 178 Nitro Pow. The length wouldn't bother me in mid to light trees, but how much float would I give up? Would the Heli's extra width help tip the scale? I just don't want to buy one and regret it.

Swallowtail vs. Longboard?

I have a question for anyone out there, has anybody done a back to back comparision of a swallow tail and a longboard such as Rad-airs Tankers? I am wondering how the two stack up against each other. Can a person eliminate the swallowtail from his quiver using a tanker, or a Dupraz/Pogo? What would ...

Hey Sito, go to splitboard.com for any and all questions on this subject. Voile makes complete boards, in the freeride series, a 172 swallowtail, and their new Mtn. Gun series. Prior obviously does, and it's rumored that Donek may join the list if they can justify the costs. Burton makes a split, no...

Had a pow day at my local resort beginning of last month, and rode my SWALLOWTAIL! Yep, I bought a Nitro pow 178 from a guy in California for $150.00! What an incredible feeling! Once I got my bindings set up properly it was amazing to float past everyone who was struggling, with no leg burn or gymn...

Lower angles...

I use my Raichle SB123's on my split setup at 40F/25R and it feels just fine, thank you. I can see no reason to use soft boots off piste, hardboots are more comfortable, the first reason I switched to them. Hardboots are also automatic crampon compatible, which is an added bonus. Hardboots kick step...

I've never seen a pair of x-bones with the Fast heel piece! I have a pair of Snowpro Fast Race bindings that have been very good to me. The Race use 6 mm bails on them, and while they don't compete with TD2 or Catek in the area of stiffness, I'd feel comfortable racing on them. Even though they use ...

2 pair...

of hardboots this year, my SB224's for resort riding w/TD2s, and a pair of SB123's w/ cut down cuffs, Vibram on the toe piece, set up for Fast stepins for backcountry use, both on my split and whatever I want to pack in. Crampon compatibility, kicking steps in firm snow, lower angles w/o toe/heel dr...

Only my homemade split...

inbounds of all places, in flat light on a cat track, I missed seeing a rut in the path while I was moving along quite fast. Broke the left half of the board under the front puck for the slider track. 11 and 1/2 inches wood core carnage! Lucky I didn't break my neck, 'cause I made a perfect one poin...
