Re: Oppdal Carving Camp 2015

Hi Pokkis, It was nice hearing from you and notifying me about Oppdal carving camp. Everything is fine with me, but it has not been so much carving the last couple of years, mostly skiing and especially powder skiing. Both in 2013 and 2014 Hans and I together with two friends went to Canada for two ...

Re: Any carving meets up in the nordic area this winter?

Hi Raiden,
I will be at Oppdal from March 10 to March 17, bringing boards and skis. Perhaps Robin also will be there. We have to carry on the tradition of making *Finnish tracks* at the slopes.

Re: Feedback on pics...sorry no video...

I would think that the instruction videos of Ben (Evgeny) will answer most of your questions, and also the original instruction clips from Jacques and Patrice on this website. Start with doing the basic exercises at slow speed and on very flat sections of the slope and then progress. If you are doin...

Re: Where is NOT the snow? ;-)

The local Oslo-slopes opened last week and the longer slopes (1500 m) will open at Friday. The largest mountain resorts in Southern Norway have been open since beginning of November.

Re: protection of the underarm

Put them outside the jacket. My experience is that wearing out the jacket sleeves and pants is a greater problem than hurting the arms unless it is very icy.

Re: Heard Rumors..

the teenagers are NOT constant customers: they get older or they easily change sport for something which seems new and fashion... like skiing with fat skis!! Also old guys have started to use fat skis, although they are carving too. I hope to be strong and flexible enough to be able to touch the sn...

Re: help with pomas and t bars

One excercise that helped me a lot when riding t-bars and pomas is to run downwards at a flat section on the slope with only the front foot attached in the binding and the rear foot on the stomp pad with most of the weighte on the front foot. I find it easier to keep the balance when the feet are cl...

Re: softboots carving : Rotation, Push-Pull and even EC

If I only had these videos plus Ben's when I started learning EC (by myself) nine years ago. Then much frustration might have been saved. Great instructional videos.

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

Although the weather was not so good this year with lots of flat light hours and very hard surface, the Oppdal camp was great, meeting old friends. Unfortunately, the summer has arrived with day temperatures up to 17 degrees, warm high up in the mountains and the snow melting away. Hopefully, i will...

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

I agree that distance is not a problem in itself, but compared to the distance to many good resorts in South/Eastern Norway, many will find Oppdal too far away. As Starikaska wrote, weather can be a challenge, but it is possible to avoid Dovre by going route 3 instead.

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

Awkward? Meaning... Meaning a long and difficult travel, far away from South Eastern part of Norway where most people live. We, that live in the Oslo-region (including Kongsberg) are spoiled with a lot of slopes and resorts from 10 minutes to 3 hours drive. To Oppdal it takes abt 6 hours from Oslo ...

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

I see that Sletvold is kind of in the middle of Hovden and Stølen. Then again mainly everyone will be in Vangslia right? Or we riding everywhere? Harald r u goin' to Oppdal? In my opininion Sletvold is in the middle of nowhere. The lift there is seldom running, so you need a car. Therefore, I would...

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

Einar, As you probably know, Oppdals "problem" is not overbooking and crowded slopes, rather the opposite. Therefore, you might consider this offer from Hotel NOR: http://www.oppdalbooking.no/Index.aspx?PageID=463&PublicationView=PublicationID=226&Language=nb-NO NOR is in walking distance from the H...

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012

Weather conditions for the next week are promising with cold temperatures again: http://www.yr.no/sted/Norge/Sør-Trøndelag/Oppdal/Oppdal_skisenter/langtidsvarsel.html This winter there has been two avalanches close to the ski lifts, Vangslia and Ådalen, so there should be lots of snow. Look at the o...
