yet another FLEX question

Post by Alex » Wednesday 3 October 2007, 15:32

The problem is always the same...when the weigh is between two flex type which is the right choice?

From Selecting Your Board Page :Determine your weight in the morning when naked :

- My weigh is from 74 to 77Kg... 78 only after the new year's eve diner, and usually the 1 of January I'm heavy on the slopes
- Height 172
- Previous Swoard: only 168 H
- I go to carve in every season from November to August...this means many snow condition;
- It's not a fundamental requisite stability at very high speed;
- I like lay down always...also in presence of little bump :vamp:

So which is the best choice?
The ultimate strength of a flex H is major of a M?

Thanks
Alex

Keep a 168H if you feel good with it. Anyway, the new model is easier to ride.

Ok, so I can add my doubts as well....

I weight as much as Alex, but I am definitely taller (187). I should get a 175 M as my 3D, but I found that most of the time we are carving in not so wide tracks..and with the 175 I found myself often going offpiste..(ok, it's fun sometimes, but NOT always!!)

So, 168H or M ?? or I am definitely stuck to the 175???

the 175is designed for guys like u and me> tall and fat
now i tried the 168 last winter, and i can tell u it is not good for our size because it is too narrow and too short...
I can close a turn on the 175 with 4-5 meter diameter, so short tracks are not an issue: if you really need to close the turn: push!

Nils, I would like to remind you that besides being tall and fat we are also old (but we can carve!!). Thus the push! factor is an issue... The thing is that with the F2 RS168 I had no problem whatsoever and it is way easier to turn than the 175. Thus I was wondering if I should keep this kind of length.. but I guess there is also quite a difference between the old 3D and the new baby.

Silber: if your weight is on the limit between two board flexes then you have the choice between "easier" and "more stable". If you think you are already an old man, then take the softer one.
The size is optimised for EC (boot overhang and stability during the turn). If you sacrifice EC efficiency then you can choose a smaller board.

But with what you say (you feel like an old man) you can take a 175S.

Jacques, I said I am an old man....I do not feel like one!! Guess I'll have to take a 175m...like my own arabella!

BTW, you use the 175, but did u try to ride the 168?

Ha, ha, ha, it's a joke! I was waiting for your reaction!

Yes of course, a few years ago. Easier, but not so much. Quite a lot less stable. The too narrow width (for my boots size) is a disaster in EC.

Finally, the correct size is an optimisation for your height. If you change the size you will get a little advantage in some parameters and loose a lot in others.

I also want to buy a SWOARD this year. But i cannot decide on the flex medium or hard.
I'm 177cm and weigh around 77kg, so i guess i could use either flex. Right now i'm riding a Hot Blast 167 from 2005. i have the feeling it's pretty hard but i like the control, the fact that the board is not nervous on higher speed. Before I bought it I tested the entire F2 line too but i thought they are not stiff enough and too nervous.

So now i'm afraid if i get a MEDIUM flex, the board is too nervous on the other hand sometimes with the blast i wish i could do smaller turns to take the speed out and also to reduce my needed space on crowded slopes...

maybe somebody can help me.
thanks.

get the 168H then: Patrice, when he is slim, is still able to have fun on this H flex...
More seriously: M flex is also good because you can have great fun on harder snows, but for a more versatile ride on softer snows, the H will be more adapted.. its up to you to decide.... Arnaud has both flex and can maybe tell you his experience( Patrice rides both too he might tell you also)

i know what you guys are aiming for: i should get both flex, nono that would blow my budget.

but seriously, guys tell me. maybe one of you knows the blast and can compare the flex to the swoard. thanks.

yes i've ridden the blast in 2002 ( model 2001) well the flex compare to that of the same size swoard ( i tried a 158 blast) is way way stiffer... the Extremecarver flex patterns are softer compare to the same size race board of any brand.

I agree with Nils
I'm also 77 kg, and have both 168 M & H

The H flex is more versatile on various snow conditions.
M is better only on steep, hard (icy) snow for intensive EC, but too soft on other conditions

ok sounds good i think H is better for me and next season i'll get the M for more icy conditions.

so next question: is it possible to test the Sword during Opening Festivals such as Kaunertal or Stubaital? Or do i have to buy a pig in a poke, die 'Katze im Sack' ?

this year I discover the passion for running and my weigh decrease,
(-3Kg) today I'm 73,5Kg but perhaps I could arrive at 72,5Kg...not less because to eat is another passion :evil2:
so with hypothetic 72,5Kg ...could I still use a 168H?
