DUAL: What is your set up?

Post by nils » Sunday 24 January 2010, 19:09

Since we get many questions about what settings to have on the DUAL, its a good place to share information, in order for everyone to know how to choose, what can be done etc...

Please give as much info as you can:)

My settings:

RIder: 190cm/80kilos/28.5 mondo
Board: Dual 175

Hardboots with TD2 and TD3 Sidewinder

Bindings settings: flat, front foot 43° and backfoot 37°. No boot overhang ( dictated the angles, set to minimal with my boots and bindings height)

I voted soft, but have not tried the hard boots on them yet! Most likely will remain on soft on the Dual and play with the angles

Soft for this 2010 and probably hard in the near future.

Sorry!

Boots: Burton Ruler
Bindings: Flow NXT AT
Angles 25/-15 at present, will be trying higher angles on soft then on hard (Northwave and soft springs/F2 race titanium) in the future when it stops raining around here!
At 25/-15, carving is great, great edge hold, no problem EC front side (I'm Mondo 26, 8 US) so very little sticking over the edge, however the back of the bindings touch the snow at high angles on back side. Incidentally even though I'm duck, I rotate quite a bit on back side so it does not look so weird.

...No weirder than your looks eh drzone ?!
Thanks for the pm by the way!

Nils, I'm getting a lot of advice on another forum to keep my angles low w soft boots, and also your advice here for NO overhang.
168 will not allow lower than about 35 degrees with my 10.5 US boots and no overhang.
I'm also taking my weight down to 75Kg for climbing etc.

Will I find the 175 Dual difficult for the narrow places, and too bumpy in uneven conditions?

Ok let's do it again.

Same as the brother with +25F and -15B
- Flow NXT/AT (thanks to bro for board and bindings!!)
- 165cm for 47cm stance
- bindings set on hole # 3 on F/B

Reason for this setup:
- Make riding fakie second nature
- Never tried duck stance before so want to explore the potential
- Just want to bug Nils because he find duck stance ugly

I keep all options opened for the Dual namely
- higher angles with soft boots (need to test the limits) or
- 40F/30B with hardboots

I am heading to Tahoe for the first time this coming weekend. I will certainly provide a report!

Hello Chaps,

I voted hard boots as it is my current set up on the board althought i am also riding her in soft boots.

My settings: Dual 168, rider 180cm, 88kg, boots 28...

Hard Boots: 40F, 32ish B, 49 stance
Started with the recommended 40/30, moved forward to 45,38 and came back to 40/32ish. I just love riding the dual with hard boots: super efficient on slope and also great off piste :)

Soft Boots: 18F, -3B, 53 stance
I like a small negative back as i feel it gives me more power in small carved turns. My mates ride their duals in soft with 30/15, 30/24 and even 40/30.

Ciao
Denis

2 years ago I tried it with HB but didn't like so much. Now I use SB (K2 Raider + bindings K2 Formula). SB are lighter than HB and allow more mobility. I use the Dual 90% off piste because on piste, the Extremecarver works perfectly !
Recently I rode 3 full days my Dual, and made some tests about angle. Finally I found a good compromise using 5-10° rear and 25-30° on the front foot.

I'm riding a DUAL 175 with soft boots' size 11 US, with FF 18° and BF - 9°, at max. stance; this gives me the best compromise on stability and reactivity on the board, real fun :D
