Big surf

Post by Frankie » Thursday 24 November 2005, 6:00

Nils
The avatar is the Hollister Ranch north of Santa Barbara ca. it is a old cattle ranch with real cowboys that used to chase the surfers out.
The set waves were sold 20 ft The board I was riding was made out of balsa wood that was hand picked buy the shaper in south america
And brought to the north shore of Hawaii.I wish there were more days like that one.A good carving day is like a good day of surfing.

UPDATE NOV 29th

Post by nils » Tuesday 29 November 2005, 14:49

Due to the huge success of the boards... Frank is setting a delay around 4-5 weeks for all orders.
Basically: if you already paid and ordered: you will receive the board soon or anyway before xmas for sure.
If you are in the process of payment: depending on how fast the factory goes, you will receive the board on time for xmas... but its still unsure as of now.
If you order now, up to xmas> delay is mini 5 weeks.

Frank, like us, makes no compromises on quality so there is no possibility of shortening production times...

Sorry about that ! Basically next deliveries next week will be people that ordered around the 25th of october. Swiss orders will also be fullfilled then.

Hello,
I am wondering if there are any plans to produce the soft flex board in the future?

Danielle,
I don't know if this info will help at all but at 63K I'm on the very low side of the recommended weight for the 168M and the flex is really just right for me. So if you were interested in the 161M it probably would be fine. The 168M might be too stiff for you (if I remember your stats right from previous posts). I know I mentioned that I might go with a 168S in a previous post but after figuring out the techinique better I think I'm right with the M. I think if it was any softer the nose would fold too easily in heavier deep snow (I did get too far over the nose once and did a high side over the handlebars once in one day old groomed after a relatively large dump, i.e. soft, deep and "squeaky" if you know what I mean). The most important thing is to get the length right in order to be able to stay CENTERED on the board. The technique is as important as the board selection. As a reference I would say the 168M is a bit stiffer longitudinally relative to my 160 incline but much stiffer torsionally. I think, as a lot of the reviews say, the Swoard is no super stiff racing board. It is a relatively softer board with high torsional stiffness that really depends on the longitudinal flex in order to turn. I think this is why it doesn't need a really stiff interface setup in order to ride right. It might even be interesting to try softies on it just for kicks. A caveat... I'm just starting on the thing and these are relatively new personal observations so take them with a grain of salt, hope it helps anyways. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. The thing is that I am at the very bottom of the weight recommendation and I don't consider myself aggressive. I am thinking that the M flex wouldn't be optimum for me.

Season 2005-06> over!

Post by nils » Tuesday 11 April 2006, 18:42

Dear friends,
We are anouncing the official end of the season for Swoard boards! It means you have now to wait for next autumn for new orders! This will let Frank at Virus produce stock so you will have less waiting time.

Tnx much for your interest this past season, it was really nice to see that the thrill got big again after all these problems we had with the previous factory!

we'll give you a few feedback of this past season in a few moments! Stay tuned!

The Swoard team
