sHs - spring system for UPZ

Post by huuska » Tuesday 2 May 2017, 10:24

Dear community,

despite the season is over I have finished/created my variant of the spring system for UPZ boots.

My motivation to create my own variant of the spring system was to avoid modification of the bottom shell of the boot which is needed for ACSS system and to make design a bit more compact than DGSS. On this system I do not like overhang of the long bottom spring where I am afraid I can ""catch/hook thinks".

All parts are from stainless steel, black screw head cover is 3D printed from PET.

For those who are interested in my design attempt I might be able to arrange production of several sets for next season.

Any comments are welcome.

Hi
good job, do you have to drill the cuff?

Hello jax,

thank you for asking.

Actually yes. I used two DN 4mm holes.

I wanted to avoid potential stress to the plastic in the upper part where hexagonal screw head is in the slot. Especially when pulling as tensioning screw is not properly guided in the top bracket (going throught long hole alowing a bit flexibility). This way I have upper bracket always properly fixed in it's position towards plastic cuff. Actually when I tested my system before drilling it seemed petty solid even without those extra screws.

If you look at the boot itself on the opposite side there is tongue from the bottom shell. To avoid "crash/catching" caused by screwhead I used countersunk screws. See pictures below. Normally we do not use such a screws when designing plastic but in this case I made a bit exception. After I made all drilling I found another supplier who provides stainless steel screws with low head profile - these could be used as an option.

Nicely made. Have talken to the austrian UPZ guys, it is also possible to buy a softer spring for their system.

Hi Hans,

I thing using original UPZ system with softer springs will not help that much due to limited stroke (by stroke I mean mainly flex to the front).

All additional spring systems will give you more then original. Studying pictures of all the systems for UPZ here at forum ACSS and mine sHs gives you similar and DGSS gives you even bigger. Only limit are buckles around ankle bend which should not touch.

Agree, stay with DGSS, if you are satisfied, ;)
