Cool!!!

It is in line with the instructions on the Swoard web under the Technique / Piste part, ie:

"ENEMIES:
...
The skiers going straight down at high speed.
..."

So, skiers are enemies, why not use them as sliced-up crash test dummies to model the phisics of snowboarding.... :-)

Cheers,

István

OK. Just got my bindigs of my old Scott Strike.

I used 48 on my 163cm Strike and I am 182cm tall. According to the measurment my stance should be 51cm and I think this is right on...maybe 0.5cm less :D

Canting yes/no? I have always been riding with canting on both bindings an my friends go to extremes with canting (homemade Al cants for the back).

So?

a) Get the plastic out ride FLAT!
b) Keep the plastic ride with canting!
c) Leave some of the plastic but not all of it:)

The excel sheet

Post by Lee » Sunday 31 October 2004, 16:55

Ok here it is:
https://www.extremecarving.com/attachme ... _Arjan.xls

Be aware its a preliminary revision.

How to measure the basic stance.
The basic stance required for the excel sheet is when you have put you boots on and be shure the soles of your boots are flat on the floor. The distance from one to the other is the basic stance. Why not measure the hip??... some people have "X" shaped legs and the other "O" shaped legs. I know... its not the most scientific way to measure. When you measure, make shure that your legs are aligned with your boots so... no pressure points.

To develop it any further i do need feedback... if it sucks... explain why

My Dutch is really poor  but double check text in cells A10-A11 ?
For me it looks like they have switched ??
Aproach is anyway intersting but perhaps little more comments would help using sheet, now there is only for A7. Specially A4 and A6.
Another one, instead of A3 for boot size, should there be used outer length of boot, not inner length ?

My english is probably as bad as your dutch

Yes... A10 is front binding angle and A11 is rear binding angle

A4=as described in my previous post
A6=from knee to hip hinge point (not easy to measure)
A3 bootsize.... is footlength... = Mondopoint size
I want to know the distance from heel to centerline (longitudinal)

I will add comments to all fieds and correct any spelling errors...

The main problem with the calculation is the sideflex of the boot. A 5degree deflexion wil increase the stance by 70mm. The question rises ... how much sideflex is "normal"?

The boot manufacturers did not want to give me an estimate.
I guess that a sideflex of 2 degrees should be acceptable. Bear in mind that using sideflex brinds tension to the whole setup (boot, binding and board). Should you use it or not? You could even deflect the bootshaft by resetting the bootshaft fixing screws.

Does anyone have an idea?

If you re-download the sheet now, the text are set correctly and i added some comments.

and about the basic stance.... well i have to think off finding a fixed point of reference

Please note also that sideflex is very dependent of binding angles :) with high angles there is no sideflex.
And for canting, i saw that you added suport for that too, great, but please add also support for different canting angle for front and rear too.

even at high binding angles, sideflex could be present... it depends on how wide you stand.

I will try to find a possibility to add different canting for each binding. With that your COG (center of gravity) will shift.

Its the variable "basic stance" and is used in the calculations K4 and K5
